Bonuses explained

Read the welcome offer properly. Then decide.

A £200 bonus with 60x wagering and £5 max bet is almost always worse than a £30 bonus with 20x wagering. This guide shows you why, and which current UK offers pass our fairness check.

The five things that actually matter

  1. Wagering requirement. Everything under 35x is generous by UK standards. Over 50x is rarely worth the time.
  2. Maximum bet rule. Breaking the cap voids the bonus. £5 is normal; £2 is tight.
  3. Game weighting. Slots usually count 100%, live casino and table games often count 10% or 0%.
  4. Expiry. Seven days or fewer puts you under pressure. Look for 14 days or more.
  5. Maximum winnings cap. Some bonuses cap what you can withdraw regardless of how well you run.

The simple bonus maths

A quick worked example. £20 bonus, 35x wagering on bonus only:

£20 × 35 = £700 total stake required before you can withdraw any bonus winnings. At a £2 average spin, that is 350 spins.

Now compare that with a no-wagering £10 free-spin pack that pays out as cash. No ambiguity, no pressure, no max bet rule. Smaller offer, but clearly better value.

Common mistakes

  • Depositing more than required to “unlock” a bigger bonus without checking wagering.
  • Ignoring game weighting and playing roulette for a slots-only bonus.
  • Forgetting the expiry clock and losing the bonus on day 8.
  • Exceeding the max bet rule by one spin and voiding the lot.

Frequently asked

What does wagering requirement mean?

It is the number of times you must stake the bonus (sometimes bonus plus deposit) before winnings become real cash. A 35x bonus wagering requirement on a £20 bonus means you must stake £700 before withdrawing.

Are no-wagering bonuses actually better?

Usually yes, provided the maximum conversion is reasonable. Any winnings from a no-wagering offer are real money immediately, though a max-win cap often applies.

Can I use a welcome offer on live casino?

Not always. Many UK welcome bonuses are slot-only, or weight live casino play at 10% or less towards wagering. Read the game weighting table before depositing.

What is a maximum bet rule?

A cap on the stake you can place while wagering a bonus, commonly £5. Breaching the cap can void the bonus and any linked winnings, so it matters.
